Balikbayan in Tagalog is literally translated as a person returning to their homeland. A Balikbayan Box is commonly referred to as a box of goods that is sent by “overseas Filipinos” to the Philippines. The contents are usually non-perishable items, household items, electronics, toys, clothing, or items that are generally difficult to find in the Philippines. However, there is great symbolism in this tangible item. It symbolizes the love for an individual’s homeland.
